More Truffles!

While we’re busy hustling truffles in our region, we’re just as pleased to see what’s happening around other parts of Australia.

West Australia

The Mundaring Truffle Festival started it all off and although it’s not in a truffle growing region, they’ve seized the unique opportunity and created an arts, craft and food event that gets thousands of visitors. Held this year on the weekend of 28 & 29 July.  See their website for details.

Further down south, where they do grow truffles there’s the Manjimup Truffle Kerfuffle.  Held on one day, this year June 16.  See their website for details.

Victoria

This has quickly grown into a terrific Festival. Local truffle grower and food retailer Chris Maquet has pulled it all together with the help this year of some excited contributors from Melbourne and the region. See the Victorian Truffles Festival website  for details.

And the Australian Truffle Growers Association has their AGM and Conference in Daylesford this year, August 17, 18, 19. This is the best event to learn about Truffle growing and marketing. See their website which also has a lot of information if you’re interested in truffles.

Truffle Trivia

There’s fifty different flavour compounds in truffles, there’s only one in truffle oil. That makes it boring for cooking but we’ve found ourselves that truffle oil has a legitmate use. It’s a very good bait for rat traps. — Peter Marshall, truffle grower, Canberra Times interview 2010
